No ways to pay for e-toll roads

What comes to mind about the E-tolling system and what does it bring at stake?

Early in 2000 we heard stories about how our government want to improve and renovate our roads and many people did not have any problems with it. But now everything has turned bitterly and sourly when we  heard about this E-tolling system. Last week events, which put the brakes on the Gauteng highway tolling project, hold many lessons for the governing and the governed.

Atleast after such a long time here comes wonderful news about this issue that we have dealt with in the past weeks. This e-tolling system is no good to the publics as we all know that many people would not afford what we have been charged. In the hue and cry about the tolls, the central conversation was not always about the rands and cents, it was about how people felt. They were shocked about what they will pay because it shows that there was no proper period of national conversation and debate.

There have been a masive resistance to e-tolling, which prompted urgent court action to halt its implementation. In its chaotic bids to introduce the e-tolling, the government made many mistakes, as did the ANC.

We need to place far less reliance on our government and far more on ourselves. Our future depends not on whether we have good representative members (government) but on whether we have a society in which citizens can be heard. We should judge our present and future not by whether we are led by genuises and saints, but by whether we have the space to ensure that the government does what we want it to do. If there is a need to intervene at a later stage, we will do so.

  1. i think this e-tolling is just another way of the government getting more money from us i mean if they say is for roads they used to promise before the e-tolling that they wil fix them but after this i don't believe them that e-tolling is for a good course

    1. This e-tolling is not for good course. The government will benefit more from this and it will be unfair for us because this would not be a win win situation. The government will benefit and us(public) will loose from this.

  2. E-toll must be banned so that everybody can be happy in life without having to pay aditional amount of money especially small businesses because as trucks travel distances day after day during delivery of goods, the money tranfered to E-toll might be someones salary for the month(this is just an example). The government must be reasonable.

    1. Of course they must be reasonable and hear what we had to say to them(Government). They are there to represent us(public) and not to represent them individually.

    1. Yes,it has already created chaos among us the South Africans. This will bring too much negative impact on us and most people will start to use Buses and taxis to go to work.

    1. That is true. These people only care for themselves and they don't want to hear what we had to say. We are been governed by corrupt people whom we thought they will bring change and uplift our economy.

  5. I wouldn't be suprised if this e-tolling system is a stunt to make the government people richer. It seems as if they dont care about the south african citizens who work hard to put bread on the table, all the government does is just take from them.

    1. That is how they operate. They just care for themselves and cover all their expenses using our money that we had worked much for. This kind of things must come to an end.

  6. I understand motorist may be stressed about fees. but think that the e tlling management has to make a final decision about this issue.

    1. They are the ones who make the final decisions but at-least they need to hear what we had to say and then that's when now they can start to plan. Everybody has the right to be heard and this must be learned by the members of the government. They cannot decide without hearing the publics' views.

  7. This system will see many citizens suffer from debts and therefore I think the citizens should fight against it because even now without this system applying to them, they are still complaining about many debts they are going through

  8. What about the unemployed who have to travel long distances, did they ever think about them when they where coming up with this system

    1. No, they just think for themselves. It would have been better it they heard what we have to say first before they can implement this e-toilling system.
